Review for Red Winter (Red Winter Trilogy #1) by Annette Marie: ★★★★★

Red Winter (Red Winter Trilogy #1)Red Winter by Annette Marie

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

::..Reviewed for Red's Midnight Readers..::

I was kindly provided with an ARC in exchange for an honest review. I have given it 5 stars.

First of all I want to say what a beautiful, eye-catching cover this book has. It's so refreshing to see something so attractive and tastefully done rather than a half naked model that usually adorns the front of books. It was the cover that first drew my attention to this series and when I was given the chance to review, I grabbed it with both hands.

Now I effectively went into this book blind, all I knew was that I desperately wanted to read the words contained behind that fabulous cover and I never even stopped to read the blurb. I was so surprised to find what lay beneath and initially I did struggle to get into the story. I found the first 20% to be rather slow and I did wonder if I was actually going to be able to finish this story at all. Then suddenly it was like boom! The author had managed to find her stride and I went from not wanting to pick it up to not being to put it down.

It utterly consumed me.

It was so refreshing to read something so different to what I normally read and the author must have a wicked imagination to have created such a detailed and complex plot and carried it through to the end. This is superb fantasy writing at it's very best.

Not only has she created this wonderful story but she has created characters that are easy to like with elements we can all relate to and there is a bit of a love triangle forming between Emi and two of those close to her and I can't wait to see where the author develops that story line as they try to save the world from those who seek to destroy it.

You should definitely one click it but all I can say is stick with it, it's not one to be missed.

In a few short months, Emi's mortal life will end when she becomes the human host of an immortal goddess. Carefully hidden from those who would destroy her, she has prepared her mind, body, and soul to unite with the goddess—and not once has she doubted her chosen fate.

Shiro is a spirit of the earth and an enemy of the goddess Emi will soon host. Mystery shrouds his every move and his ruby eyes shine with cunning she can’t match and dares not trust. But she saved his life, and until his debt is paid, he is hers to command—whether she wants him or not.

On the day they meet, everything Emi believes comes undone, swept away like snow upon the winter wind. For the first time, she wants to change her fate—but how can she erase a destiny already wrought in stone? Against the power of the gods, Shiro is her only hope … and hope is all she has left.

RED WINTER includes 10 full-page illustrations by award-winning artist Brittany Jackson.
