***Blog Tour*** Reflected Destinies by Florence Keeling

Reflected Destinies
Laura is happy and content, she has a new boyfriend and loves her job teaching primary school pupils in
London.  But when she inherits a rundown house from a stranger on her 30th birthday, memories of her
prom night come flooding back, memories of a scary encounter and an antique mirror in the very same
house.

Laura visits the house with all its secrets and as she unravels the clues she reveals the biggest secret of all:
her own destiny.  But how can you change the future if it’s already written in the past?

EXTRACT
One of my favourite things about Reflected Destines was imagining how a man from the 1940s would react to modern day inventions such as tea bags.

“Shall we have a cup of tea?”  It was about the only thing she could think of to say at that moment in time. “I’ll make it.”

He shot up and dashed into the kitchen.  “I’ve realised that I’m not in my time anymore,” he told Laura as she came into the kitchen after him.

“My street doesn’t look anything like the one outside and some of the things I’ve seen and heard from people walking past would shock a priest.

And the cars? Wow, the cars are amazing, like something from space.” Laura sat at the picnic table shaking her head.  Not his time, she said to herself;

well what time was his time?   “I’ve worked this kettle thing out though.  I have to say it’s amazing and so fast to boil.  My mother would love one of these.

She loves her tea does my mother.”  Laura watched as he picked two tea bags out of the box, ripped them open and poured the tea leaves into a cup.

“I like the idea of these little bag things.” He said quite innocently. “Just the right amount for the perfect cup but you haven’t got a tea strainer.” “You don’t rip

the bags.”  Laura stood up, tipped the tea leaves into the bin, got two fresh cups and put new tea bags in.  “The tea mashes through the bag, then you take

the bag out and add the milk.” “And you keep the milk in these little tiny things?”  Ben held up one of the UHT sachets that Laura had been using as she didn’t

have a fridge yet.  “Why doesn’t it go off? Why haven’t you got a refrigerator? They’re quite a new thing I know, but absolutely remarkable.  Keeps the milk, cheese,

and meat fresh for so much longer. Mother won’t have any of these new electric things in the house you know, but we have one at work.” “Erm …”  Laura didn’t

know which question to answer first so she went with the fridge.  “I haven’t bought one yet; because I don’t live here I don’t need one.” “And about that.”  Ben watched

in amazement as she squeezed the tea bags slightly against the side of each cup.  “Why don’t you live here?” “I live in London.”  She handed him one of the cups and he stared at it.

“Unbelievable.”  He took a sip. “Not a single leaf floating about.”  He took another sip. “London you say? I’ve always wanted to see Buckingham Palace where the King lives and Big Ben.”

“The King?”  Laura queried.  “You mean the Queen don’t you?  Queen Elizabeth.” “Don’t be silly.”  He looked at her as if she was mad.  “King George the Sixth, Elizabeth is his daughter.”

It was suddenly beginning to dawn on Laura that this man believed he was living in the past.
