Review for The Darkest Corners by Sydney Jamesson: ★★★★

The Darkest CornersThe Darkest Corners by Sydney Jamesson

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

::..Reviewed for Red's Midnight Readers..::

I was very kindly offered an ARC by the author in exchange for an honest and unbiased review. I have given The Darkest Corners four stars.

I have been a big fan of Sydney Jamesson's previous books and I always enjoyed the darker aspects of her stories. When she announced that she was writing something a bit darker, I was naturally overjoyed and couldn't wait to read it.

Initially I found it slow going and just couldn't seem to engage with the characters, however once I delved deeper into the story and realized all was not as it seemed, I couldn't turn the pages fast enough.

Sydney Jamesson had packed this story full of twists and turns that will have you enthralled. I enjoyed Harriet's diary entries as they give a real insight into her character, especially as the book started to take a darker turn and things started to get really exciting.

Watching the characters relationships develop was interesting and I couldn't wait to see what happened when the truth about their deceptions was finally revealed and I was not disappointed as this story ended on a bang!!

This book is about love, loss, deception and obsession and the author got it bang on!

Blurb

After surviving a life changing event, celebrated artist Maxwell Grant has not touched a paintbrush or a woman in four years. During that time, he has tormented himself over an unspeakable act he dare not admit to, even to himself.
His one chance at redemption comes through a journal left behind by Harriet Harper, a mysterious woman in his night school class.
Shocked by what he reads about her tortured existence, he becomes obsessed by her and falls headfirst into a dangerous game of he said, she said, not knowing who to believe—who to trust.
When a dangerous character from Harriet’s past appears, events take a turn for the worse and he must say and do whatever necessary to save his sanity and, more importantly, his four year old daughter, Poppy.
Some secrets never get to see the light of day; others are just waiting to be uncovered … with shocking consequences.
