The Silent PatientThe Silent Patient by Alex Michaelides

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

::..Reviewed for Red's Midnight Readers..::

I was very kindly offered an ARC in exchange for an honest and unbiased review and I have given this debut novel 5 stars.

Page turning excellence- The best psychological thriller you will read all year!

When I was offered the chance to read the new debut novel by Alex Michaelides, I jumped at the chance and it did not disappoint in any way.

This talented author has a way with words that pulls the reader from the very first page. I was held captive and quickly found myself unable to put it down.

The silent patient is told in a dual POV, we meet Alicia, found standing over her Husbands body with the gun used to kill him in her hands. She hasn't spoken since the ordeal which brings Theo into the story. Theo is the psychiatrist who thinks he could be the one to finally get Alicia to speak. However, because Alicia hasn't spoken since the murder, we only hear side through her journal entries, her artwork and third parties but you quickly realize that all is not as it seems.

The one thing I love about these types of stories is that there is always so much more going on than meets the eye. Alex has certainly done a good job at blindsiding his readers because you know that there is something much bigger happening in this story but there is nothing that will prepare you for the shocking reveal - it's amazing!!!

The Silent Patient is cleverly written and and completely and utterly compelling. Nothing is going to want to make you put it down.

Blurb
Promising to be the debut novel of the season The Silent Patientis a shocking psychological thriller of a woman’s act of violence against her husband—and of the therapist obsessed with uncovering her motive…

Alicia Berenson’s life is seemingly perfect. A famous painter married to an in-demand fashion photographer, she lives in a grand house with big windows overlooking a park in one of London’s most desirable areas. One evening her husband Gabriel returns home late from a fashion shoot, and Alicia shoots him five times in the face, and then never speaks another word.

Alicia’s refusal to talk, or give any kind of explanation, turns a domestic tragedy into something far grander, a mystery that captures the public imagination and casts Alicia into notoriety. The price of her art skyrockets, and she, the silent patient, is hidden away from the tabloids and spotlight at the Grove, a secure forensic unit in North London.

Theo Faber is a criminal psychotherapist who has waited a long time for the opportunity to work with Alicia. His determination to get her to talk and unravel the mystery of why she shot her husband takes him down a twisting path into his own motivations—a search for the truth that threatens to consume him....
